How Much Money Do I Need to Visit Bali?

There is no single minimum amount for every Bali visitor. Your immigration requirement depends on the Indonesian visa you use, while your actual spending depends on accommodation, food, transport and activities.

Quick answer
For your actual trip, roughly IDR 600,000–1,000,000 per person per day can work for lower-cost Bali travel, while IDR 1.5–3 million per day is a more comfortable mid-range planning budget. These are not immigration minimums. Indonesia's proof-of-funds rules depend on the visa you use.

Is there a minimum amount of money required to visit Bali?

There is no single “Bali minimum cash requirement” that applies to every foreign tourist.

Bali is part of Indonesia, so immigration requirements come from Indonesia and depend on the visa or entry permission you use.

That distinction matters because a Visa on Arrival traveler and a C1 tourist-visa applicant do not have exactly the same documentary requirements.

Do I need to show US$2,000 to visit Bali?

It depends on your visa.

B1 Visa on Arrival / e-VOA

Indonesia's current B1 tourism Visa on Arrival requirements list:

  • A passport valid for at least six months.
  • A recent photograph for the electronic application.
  • A return or onward ticket.

The current B1 page does not list a US$2,000 bank-statement requirement. The B1 visa fee is currently IDR 500,000.

See the official Indonesia Immigration B1 visa guidance.

C1 tourist visa

The current C1 tourist-visa requirements are different.

Indonesia Immigration currently requires proof of living expenses in the form of a bank statement covering the previous three months with at least US$2,000 or the equivalent in another currency.

See the official Indonesia Immigration C1 tourist visa guidance.

US$2,000 is not a universal Bali tourist minimum
Do not tell every Bali visitor that they must carry or spend US$2,000. It is a documented financial requirement for certain Indonesian visa applications, including the current C1 tourist visa—not a universal daily spending rule for every traveler entering Bali.

How much should I budget per day in Bali?

For travel planning rather than immigration purposes, a reasonable starting point is:

Budget trip
IDR 600k–1m/day
Simple accommodation, local meals, scooters or inexpensive transport and mostly low-cost activities.
Mid-range trip
IDR 1.5m–3m/day
Comfortable hotel, restaurants, transport and a mixture of paid attractions and day trips.
Comfortable trip
IDR 4m+/day
Resorts or premium villas, private transport, restaurants, nightlife and more expensive activities.

These are Flightika planning estimates, not figures set by Indonesian immigration.

How much money do I need for 3, 5 or 7 days in Bali?

Trip lengthBudget travellerMid-range traveller
3 daysIDR 1.8–3 millionIDR 4.5–9 million
5 daysIDR 3–5 millionIDR 7.5–15 million
7 daysIDR 4.2–7 millionIDR 10.5–21 million
Planning estimates only. International airfare, visa fees, the Bali tourist levy, major shopping and luxury activities are not included.
Accommodation
Biggest variable
A hostel, guesthouse, private villa and luxury resort can produce completely different Bali budgets.
Food
Highly flexible
Local warungs can keep meal costs relatively low, while beach clubs and international restaurants can increase your daily spending quickly.

How much is the Bali tourist levy?

Bali currently charges foreign tourists subject to the levy IDR 150,000 per person.

The payment is separate from your Indonesian visa fee and should not be confused with proof of funds.

Bali's official Love Bali system says the levy is paid once during the relevant Bali trip, subject to the applicable exemptions.

Check the official Love Bali website before travelling.

Keep these three amounts separate
Your proof-of-funds requirement, your actual holiday budget and Bali's IDR 150,000 tourist levy are three different things.

Do I also need a return or onward ticket for Bali?

If you use Indonesia's B1 Visa on Arrival, the current official requirements include a return ticket or an onward ticket to another country.

Your travel budget therefore is only one part of preparing for the trip.

Check your actual visa before you fly
Bali does not have a separate immigration system from Indonesia. Check the requirements of the Indonesian visa or visa exemption you will actually use, including any financial and return-ticket requirements.
